1) What inspired you to get into pin up modeling?
I've always been in love with the glamour and nostalgia of the past. I used to sit around with my "could-have-been-a-pinup" grandma and watch Elvis movies. When I was little, I'd play dress up and pretend to be Marilyn Monroe (in addition to teacher or doctor). I think that took hold as a child, and growing up, it became my ideal of beauty. I've always wanted to be a pinup, even though it took a long time for me to actually begin shooting.
2) What is your favorite pin up outfit?
I love vintage/vintage-styled lingerie, but my favorite outfits will probably always be a beautiful dress. I'm particularly fond of my leopard print Pinup Girl Clothing dress.

3) Who do you draw on for inspiration for your photos?
There really isn't one person I draw inspiration from-- I try to pull from every person I love. I love the sexiness of Marilyn, but the beauty of Jayne Mansfield. I love Bettie Page's poses, but want the cheesecake faces of Elvgren illustrations. I love the sheer glamour of Dita, but the sweetness of Idda Van Munster. I am all over the place... but then again, pinup is very multi-faceted itself.
4) What is confidence to you and how have you become so confident?
Confidence is being comfortable in your skin-- and also learning to love yourself. When you pick at your flaws, you become consumed with them. There's a level of self-love and self-acceptance that comes hand-in-hand with confidence. As I get older, I've become more self-assured and believe in myself more.
5) What advice do you have for doing pinup on a budget? What subtle things can a woman do to add pinup in their lives?
Investing in pinup is a smart thing to do - building a strong portfolio can make for a strong foundation, and that's essential. But there are always ways to incorporate pinup into your life - whether it's an expensive shoot or a simple cat-eye. In all honesty, pinup is about class. Adding charm and class - becoming a lady - is an easy way to bring the heart of it into your lives. The cat-eye and hair flowers only embellish that.
6) What sort of exercise do you do to maintain your awesome curves?
I'm not going to lie - I eat ice cream and work out about three times a week. I probably need to tweak this routine. Haha!
7) How long did it take you to get to where you’re at now as a model?
It's taken me years. I did my first pinup shoot in 2004 - although, at the time, I had no clue what I was doing or that there was even a genre for it! In later years, I started shooting seriously. I'd say I've been shooting now for since 2010, and busting my tail all the while. I've had people tell me that I'm the "hardest working woman in pinup" - and it may be true, even though a lot of it is behind the scenes.

8) What item in your wardrobe makes you feel the sexiest?
I love my open-bottom Ragos. There's something about the lines it creates... It turns your body into sleek lines and curves. Plus, they're sheer but still have coverage - it's just a hint. I also love that it's actually shapewear, and holds everything together where I'm most worried about my imperfections. Confidence equals more sexiness!
9) What does an average day in the life of Shana look like?
Typically, I wake up and drag myself out of bed. I rush off to my normal 9-5 all day, checking my emails and updating my pages when I can. After the workday is over, I usually head home and spend the entire evening working on my own business -Atomic Bombshells Magazine - and spending time with my husband and puppies until I can't keep my eyes open! The weekends are unpredictable, however! I could be at a shoot, at a car show, spending time with family, travelling to work as a makeup artist... there's no telling!
10) What are your top 3 tips for the pin up look?
I'd have to say perfecting your makeup and hair is my first advice. You can't just do a cat-eye and stick a hair flower in. Learn your face, learn its shape, and learn how to do a classic makeup application on yourself. Practice with your hair - everyone has different types - and figure out what looks good. Play around with different tricks, techniques and styles. Even if you can't perfect the victory rolls at first, even a simple pin curl is achievable and classic. My second tip is to master the art of heels. Learning to walk in them is not enough—find pairs that are ACTUALLY comfortable, get used to them/break them in, and learn to glide across a room. There is a difference in people that can make it from point A to point B, and a person who effortlessly and gracefully float. You don’t even have to be awkward or clutzy—there is still a huge difference in “ok” and “Grace Kelly”. Tip 3 is to always be classy. At least in public—kidding!
11) For all the ladies out there too afraid to do pin up or pin up modeling, what would you say to them?
You just have to dive in. Once you’re transformed, you can stop “being scared” and start “having fun”. I put it off for years, because I was afraid I was too fat or lacked the skills. You know what? You’re never going to get younger, and you’re never going to stop picking at your flaws. You’ll wake up one day, and the years will have flown by. It will never be “the right time”. You just have to take the leap, and you’ll be glad you did.
